California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) is a department within the California Health and Human Services Agency that administers programs intended to implement the vision of Equitable Healthcare Accessibility for California. The HCAI Special Seismic Certification Pre-approval (OSP) program is voluntary and aims to improve enforcement of the IBC and CBC codes for health facility construction in the State of California.
To gain OSP Pre-Approval, equipment must be tested to the highest Sds level in California, as specified in the IBC. Once certified, a piece of equipment can be used in just about any healthcare facility in the State assuming it is mounted in the same configuration. This option is typically ideal for manufacturers that hope to sell their equipment to a number of different facilities.
Another benefit to the OSP Pre-approval program is that entire product lines can be certified by testing just the largest and smallest units in the line, similar to the IBC Certification. Attainment of an OSP will ensure equipment reliability as well as increase a product line’s marketability.
