There are both benefits and limitations when testing equipment for a site specific application. It is important to understand this type of certification in order to determine whether or not it is a good choice for your project. When testing to gain site specific approval, the Unit Under Test (UUT) is exposed to seismic forces on the shake table determined by the site where the unit is to be installed. As a result, there is less strain imposed on the unit, and often a higher probability of the unit passing the test. The disadvantage to testing a unit to a lower level is that the unit can only be installed in facilities where the seismicity is the same or lower than the level it was tested to.
If you are seeking approval to install equipment at only one facility, then the limited certification is of no concern to you and additional benefits apply including expedited approval and installation as well as reduced fees.
